But as it happens, one happy RAZR owner in Greece got the official ICS update earlier than everyone else. It all happened when the RAZR owner in question had a problem with his device and brought it to Greek carrier Cellcom’s customer care center. When he collected it, he got a notification, and his smartphone updated to Android 4.0.4. When asked if Greece is about to get the over-the-air ICS update, both Motorola and Cellcome responded negatively. Perhaps the guys in the customer care center flashed some of their internal testing ROMs, by mistake. This would suggest that even though the update isn’t official just yet, it’s already undergoing testing and it should become available soon.

This device features a 7-inch display, dual-core processor and access to the wealth of content stored on Amazon’s servers. Best of all, the Kindle Fire clocks in at just $199.99 which is considerably cheaper than just about every single tablet on the market – even those that have lower end specs.

While the Kindle Fire is expected to do quite well and potentially be the first big selling Android powered tablet, many are wondering what’s next. This is largely due to the fact that rumors have suggested Amazon rushed to get the first generation Fire onto the market in time for the holiday season. Unfortunately as of now we’ve heard nothing official regarding a second generation Kindle Fire 2 but we do have some more rumors to share with you today.

According to these latest rumors it seems that Amazon may be switching up their future plans. Previously we had heard that the company would be following up the 7-inch Fire with a 10-inch model. Now it’s being said that Amazon has done away with the 10-inch tablet for the time being in favor of an 8.9-inch model. To put that into perspective Apple’s iPad features a 9.7-inch display so think about an inch smaller than that when measured diagonally.

What he has there definitely has nothing to do with just an extension of his body so that he looks good when wearing a long-sleeved shirt, and while he has no vendetta against any sperm whales or other sea creature, Mr Prideaux has a wish to own a prosthetic arm with a dock inside that can hold his smartphone within. Kind of a neat idea actually, although it would be a shame if the prosthetic had to change from time to time each time the smartphone is upgraded to a different model.

Technicians at the Exeter Mobility Centre were part of this particularly ground-breaking limb, where prosthethist Steve Gallichan, technician Les Street and undergraduate worker Sarah Bennett managed to roll out the prototype of Mr Prideaux’s request in a matter of just five weeks. Using a laminated fibre cast of the phone, they managed to build a prosthetic that fits Mr Prideaux’s smartphone inside – perfectly, it seems.

He’s using a Nokia C7, and it sits pretty inside. If you are curious as to wonder why Steve did not bother with an iPhone, it is not for the want of trying. He did approach Apple for a blank case of the iPhone for fitting and testing purposes, but he got turned down instead.

Google has been looking to compete with the iPad quite a bit with their Android Honeycomb platform. However, with the iPad being so dominant does Honeycomb stand any chance? Maybe, but things may not look so promising right now. According to recent reports it seems that only 3.4 million Android Honeycomb powered tablets have been sold to date. However, make note that these are not official numbers but instead were calculated with information released by Google during their recent earning’s call. If you couldn’t piece it together, this number is a very small fraction of what the iPad has sold since being on the market with current numbers being somewhere north of 25 million. Apparently, we are just a few months away from mobile chipsets with 2.5GHz quad-core CPUs.

The S4 class of the Snapdragon family, which will be used in next-generation devices, will be using 28nm architecture for much better power-efficiency than the current crop of mobile chipsets. It will offer single-core, dual-core, and quad-core processors clocked all the way up to 2.5GHz plus a new GPU.

So far, Adreno GPUs haven’t won many battles on the mobile front, but Qualcomm will obviously try and change that. The next Adreno will be using new architecture and will have either two or four cores. So the top model of the next Snapdragon generation should have 8 processing cores – four for the CPU and four for the GPU – amazing right? Finally, Qualcomm will also make sure that it’s not lagging behind in terms of network radios and it will be equipping its next gen chipsets with 3G and LTE antennas. With the LTE network coverage expected to rapidly expand over the next couple of years we can’t see anyone being shocked about that.

The latest and greatest BlackBerry, which offers both a touch screen and a hardware keyboard, will set you back $299.99 with a two year commitment, after a mail in rebate. This means that at the time of purchase, you will have to shell out close to $400 of your hard earned dollars. Should you decide that you don’t want to sign a contract, prepare to spend $600 plus the applicable taxes.

The above numbers show that the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is currently the most expensive phone, offered by T-Mobile. While the device is impressive, we think that you must really want a BlackBerry in order to spend such an amount of money, and pass on the number of dual-core, lower priced droids, available from the Big Magenta.
