Intel and Nokia’s MeeGo

Intel and Nokia's MeeGo

It is confirmed Intel and Nokia will collaborate to produce a single mobile platform. The two technology giants announced the collaboration on June 2009. But none has released any detailed about it until on the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Intel the world’s largest chip maker and Nokia the world’s largest mobile phone maker would create the MeeGo platform. This platform would not only power phones, but will also be used to power netbooks, TVs and other entertainment.

The question now is what will happen to the Symbian phones which Nokia puts on its mobile phones since 2008. As clarified by Nokia’s executive vice president of devices, Kai Oistamo, said that the two operating system would co-exist, although MeeGo would likely be used for premium devices. The Symbian Foundation announced earlier in February that they would make their platform’s source code open source.

Good thing the new software will be given away for free, but Nokia will make money by selling products like the apps. Expect get the first MeeGo version to be on stores on the second quarter of 2010.
