During my stay at home I noticed that there a lot of mosquitoes flying. They bit me whenever they have the chance. Their little bites leave behind itchy painful welts. Now I remember these little pests doesn’t have to be taken for granted.
In my college years I studied parasitology where I learned so much especially diseases that are transmitted by insects. Mosquitoes are canning pests, they carry with them smaller parasites that can infect human. The mosquitoes harbor these organisms that when they bit us, they expel these organisms through their saliva. What are these smaller parasites in them that can eventually cause disease to people.
One parasite for example is the West Nile Virus. Take note that the distribution of these viruses is in the American continent and Africa. They cause inflammation of the brain and can be fatal. They infect only the brain because all parasites are organ specific, it means they will live only in a specific organ where they multiply and cause the damage.
Another parasite is Malaria, they are found throughout the world and cause many deaths. Symptoms would include fever-this is the time where they multiply in the body and releases toxins which is very fatal.
The dengue virus is another parasite that can only be found in the tropics. Accordingly they are carried only by mosquitoes that are active during the day but these claim is said to be a myth.
The best way to protect ourselves from the danger of mosquitoes is to prevent them from biting us. We must also take measures on how to control their population. Limiting their breeding areas. We have to unclog open sewerage so that they could not lay their eggs. Dump out waters that are collected in used tires, toys or buckets. I personally have a repellent stored in my mobile phone. It is an application that produces sound waves which can drive away mosquitoes. Lotions on the other hand is still the most effective repellent of course. Buy lotions that contain natural ingredients, those that aren’t hash on your skin.
